Microsoft Video Editor
This article introduces how to find and use Microsoft Video Editor to create video content for online learning.
Video Editor is included with Windows 10 and Microsoft 365. It includes a full-featured set of video creation and editing tools including music, text, motion, and 3D effects.
Video Editor is the successor to Movie Maker on Windows 10, with a focus on easy-to-use creative tools.
Video Editor is part of the Microsoft Photos app and shares it logo, seen above.
It can be easily accessed by clicking the start menu and typing in "video" and clicking on the application.
This will open up the video editor. To begin editing a new video for the first time, choose New video project.
Video Editor includes two additional options.
- Use the Import backup option is, during the process of editing a video previously, you have saved the backup and wish to upload it here to continue working
- The Make a video for me option will open your files and allow you to choose from pictures and video, which the program will then place into a slideshow/video with a title card.
We recommend using the New video project option for creating academic video resources.
The first step is to name your video project.
Then, begin in the top left corner by adding content to the project library. Do this by clicking the blue + Add" button. This will open up your files where you may select from images and video.
Then, drag files in the desired order to the project library.
Use the features of the project library toolbar to edit the video by adding a title card, trimming or splitting, adding text, motion, 3D effects or filters.
At the top right corner of the screen, you will also find option to include your own audio or sample background music for your video.
When your video is ready to be published, click on the Finish video button at the top right corner of the screen. A pop up will prompt you to choose the video quality. Click Export. From here, your files will open. Select where to save the video (including to OneDrive) and provide a file name.
When finished, the video will open and play automatically.
